15th Annual Celebration of Peace Dinner
Approximately 50 people gathered Monday evening, December 7th in the
Liberty Room at One Smithfield Street, Downtown, to celebrate and review CAP's
past year's projects. Co-Chairs, Judy Robertson and Lori Rue welcomed
everyone with CAP member, Glenna Wilson offering the Invocation. A moment of silence was observed as she lit a
candle for all those who died because of violence in our city, in our nation,
and in the world. Following dinner, Judy
Robertson thanked the members of Three Rivers Rowing Association for their
volunteer work with CAP’s Paddlers for Peace.
Lori Rue recognized and thanked the members of the Youth Dragon Boat
Team (Paddlers for Peace). Lois “Toni”
McClendon, Program Director/Community Organizer for CAP reported on this past
summer’s Peace Bus activities thanking those folks who served on the Peace Bus
staff. Jo Schlesinger (recently retired
from the MAPS Program at Pitt) was honored with CAP’s Ambassador for Peace
Award. Toni read the following from Jo’s
award – “In great appreciation for your valuable contributions to CAP as our “guardian
angel” at MAPS/University of Pittsburgh, we are proud to present you with this award. You embody a quiet, gentle strength and you
are truly model of peace and justice in action”. The evening ended with Janet
Carroll, as she does each year, offering a Chinese Auction.
