"Sign for Peace" Project*

Another significant activity of CAP is the "Sign for Peace" Project. This activity is a simple one, which involves several of our members participating in Community Events, Health Fairs, School Open Houses or other gatherings in the community.  CAP sets up a table with a sheet where people sign their name indicating that they will be peaceful in their actions.  This simple project has impacted hundreds of people in the six years we have presented it.  Paramount among these activities was the Market Square gathering eight years ago, which spoke out against the Klu Klux Klan Rally at the City-County Building.  Over 250 signs for peace have been offered through various CAP and other community activities.

We continue to offer Sign for Peace throughout the County and will offer it again this summer on our Peace Bus

What is Peace?

Poem by Lois “Toni” McClendon 2007 ©

Peace is not still,

Peace is constantly moving

Contemplating one’s navel

does not bring inner peace

Nor does going along with the status quo

Peace is a verb, not a noun

Peace should not be placed

On a lonely top shelf,

wrapped in a pretty box with golden bows.

Peace is not a portion

Or a tidbit

Peace is whole

Peace is not simple

But it is not hard to fathom

Peace does not sit at home

Looking out the window

Watching parades go by

Peace cannot live in a vacuum

Peace is too big to fill a room

Peace is what you get

           When justice prevails

When freedom rings

Peace is You

Peace is Me

Peace is

Peace is

Peace is

Children find peace

Jumping rope on the sidewalk

Seniors find peace

When thinking of home

Mothers find peace and

Pass it out like candy

Fathers find peace when day is done

Peace is a bird, flying high in the sky

Peace calls out clear as a bell

Peace is heard around the world

Peace is not old

Peace never goes out of style

Yet, each generation discovers it anew

Never understanding that Peace

Came in with the Big Bang at the birth of Creation

And will go on shining

Till all the starts fall out

And the world begins again

Peace Is!

Peace Is!

Peace Is!
