Conference begins at 8:30 with Champion for Children Awards

Keynote : Dr. Gregory Williams: Embracing Your Scars

This session will present to the listener an action plan on how to stop hiding your hurts & pains and start embracing those scars that have made you, YOU.

It will also give insight on how to take negative things in a person’s life and turn them into positive and powerful impacts that can help change the life of others.

 


1st Breakout Options YOU WILL CHOOSE ONE WHEN YOU REGISTER

OPTION ONE: Gregory WilliamsTrauma-Informed Care and Leadership

This session will present to the listener the importance of learning how to recognize someone that has endured trauma in their lives and how to best deal with them.

It will also give an important game plan of becoming a more understanding and sensitive individual at the workplace, in the community and in our homes.


OPTION TWO: Alisha Meneely: Michigan Child Protection Registry, how it works and where parents/caregivers can register. The second section defines sexting and sextortion and the laws that pertain to these messages in Michigan. The third section educates providers/parents on how to use parent controls at the network, device and app levels. Lastly, participants will learn what apps are popular at the moment, how kids are using them and what predators are looking for.

2nd Breakout Options YOU WILL CHOOSE ONE WHEN YOU REGISTER

OPTION ONE: Gregory Williams:  Healing for Childhood Trauma

This session will present the listener some important steps and ways to best communicate with someone that has experienced anxiety and/or trauma.

It will also take a deep dive into the importance of the recognizing the impact of Adverse Childhood Experiences

OPTION TWO: Karlene Howard: Community Connections                           An explanation of the Health Department of Northwest Michigan’s Community Connections program and the role of Community Health Workers. As well, an in-depth discussion on the effect Social Determinants of Health can have on both physical and mental health, and how Community Connections can help navigate those needs

Plenary: Judge Allie Maldonado 

"I Am More Than My ACE Score: Embracing Resilience to Thrive

No one's ACE score has to define them.  Judge Allie Greenleaf Maldonado beat the odds and overcame adversity to eventually achieve great success. She found that support from healthy adults, mentorship and hard work were the path to a good life. Mentorships, support from healthy adults and hard work paved the path to a good life.  She Judge Maldonado will share her personal journey with you to show how she charted a life beyond her ACE score."
